As a writer and photographer for various gem and jewelry publications around the world, Robert sees and handles superb gem materials. Using his gift for photography and storytelling, he often writes feature, peer-reviewed articles for scholarly journals.
Weldon has been involved in the production of several books, including Splendour & Science of Pearls, which he co-authored and edited. He is currently working on a book for the Somewhere in the Rainbow collection of gems and jewelry. A Rough Guide for Artisanal Miners is an educational book that he co-wrote and presented to artisanal miners in Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, and other East African countries, as part of Gemological Institute of America’s (GIA) Artisanal mining program, funded by its Endowment.
Robert Weldon is now retired from GIA but remains an active consultant in the gem industry, and on the Board of Gems Keep Giving.
